Obituary of Jane S Walker Pifer Mullvean, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern 15 Dec. 1904, Palestine Reporter   Obituary of Jane S. Walker Pifer Mullvean   Jane  S. Mullvean, whose maiden name was Walker, was born in Fayette county, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1817, and died Dec. 8, 1904, aged 87 years, 9 months, and 21 days.  She emigrated with her parents to Vigo county, Ind., in 1837, and the year following bought land on LaMotte Prairie, near Palestine.  Deceased was united in marriage to Elijah S. Pifer, Dec. 30, 1840.  This union was blessed with five children, Margaret A., Thomas J., George W., Mary E., and Emma J., the husband and four children having preceeded her to the better land.   She was married a second time on March 13, 1855, to Andrew Mullvean. One son, Freeman W., was born to them, but he and the father preceeded her into the Great Beyond.  Those left to mourn her loss are a son, Thomas J. Pifer, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Deceased united with the M. E. Church of LaMotte Prairie in 1850 and continued a faithful member of the same until its reorganization during the war of the Rebellion.  In 1873 she united with the Union Christian church of LaMotte Prairie, and lived the life of a true Christian until God called her from labor to reward.  She suffered a slight stroke of paralysis on Nov. 26, 1903, and another on March 10, 1904.  Since that time she has been a helpless invalid, but not a hopeless one, for she always maintained a firm faith in God and a bright hope of heaven.  She frequently told the family and others who visited her during her illness that she was willing to live if it was God's will, and was also ready to die when God called her.  Many times when bidding her friends good bye she would say, "If we never meet on earth again I hope we will meet in Heaven.   Her life has been a busy one, full of care and trials.  In her second marriage seven little children between the ages of three and fourteen years, were brought together, three of her own and four stepchildren, and where mother lived, was always a home for any of them when they wished to make it so.  She was always faithful and true to her husband's children, self and God, as her living example has proved.   The funeral was held from Oak Grove church Sunday, Dec. 11, and was attended by a large concourse sorrowing friends and relatives.  Rev. J. M. Carmean conducted the services, being assisted by Rev. M. V. Hathaway.  Many were present from distant points which attests to the high esteem in which she was held as a pattern of true Christian womanhood wherever known. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
