Obituary of Jacob UMSTOT, Crawford County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Cindy McCachern Obituary of Jacob Umstot 28 August 1912, Robinson (IL) Constitution Jacob Umstot was born in Mineral County, W. Va., Nov. 28, 1826; was called from labor to reward July 30, 1912, aged 85 years, 8 months and 2 days. He left the parental home at the age of 20, and going to Licking County, Ohio, remained about four years, working in a store and as a farm hand. He came by wagon to Illinois in the spring of '51. Entered 160 acres of land one-half mile east of Annapolis, where he lived until the loss of his sight and infirmities of age compelled him to abandon the life of a farmer, and he went to live with his daughter, Octavia, where he remained until death came. He was married to Rhoda Fleek Jan. 20, 1852, and to them were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, all living except the oldest, David. The living sons are James A., Zimri, John F., and Jacob, Jr.; daughters, Melissa Evans, Octavia Maddox and Florence Burner. He was one of the pioneers of this county, and by close attention to business and his honest integrity accumulated quite an amount of weath.
