Obituary of Martha Ann GRIFFITH, Crawford County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Crawford County Web Site I have no connection to this family. MARTHA ANN GRIFFITH Mrs. Martha Ann Griffith, nee Mills was born in Pitt county, North Carolina, May 6, 1829. While a child she came with her parents to Crawford County Ill. where she grew up amid the privations and of those pioneer days, contributing her full share of toil to the cause of human progress. She united with the Christian Church when 18 years of age and ever afterward sought to be loyal to her Savior. On Dec. 8, 1858 she was united in marriage to William S. Griffith. To this union were born eight children, five of whom preceded the mother to another world. Her health had been poorly for years but about 4 months ago she suffered an attack from which she never recovered. Everything that kind hands could do was done, yet she gradually grew weaker until she fell asleep at 5 o'clock P.M. March 24, 1910, aged 80 years, 10 months, and 18 days. She is survived by her sorrowing husband three children, Mrs. Frank Essex, Miss Argosa Griffith and Jerry T. Griffith all of this place, besides other friends and relatives. Dearest Mother, thou has left us, And our loss we deeply feel, But 'tis God who has bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal. Yet we hope to meet thee, when the day of life is fled. When in heaven in joy to greet thee, Where no farewell tears are shed. *************************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
