Obituary of Needum Jasper KENT, Crawford County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Crawford County Web Site NEEDUM JASPER KENT Needum Jasper Kent was born on the 12th day of August , 1865 and departed this life Nov. 25, 1910 aged 45 years 8 months and 11 days. He leaves surviving his widowed mother, Nancy Kent, four sisters, Miranda E. Seaney, Eeilla J. Lackey, Anice Seitzinger and Carrie E. Lackey, and one brother Nelson Ross Kent. His father, Newton A. Kent departed this life Sept. 14, 1882 leaving Jasper the oldest son then 17 years of age to assist his mother in managing the affairs and rearing the family of six younger children which was well done as the lives and character of the family will testify. All the children were reared to manhood and womanhood and are living except one sister, Mrs. Belle Pinkstaff, who preceded him in death. Jasper was never married but devoted his life to faithful care and attention to his mother, always sharing her burden of care and responsibility, and his greatest anxiety in his last sickness, except his soul's welfare, was that the remaining members of the family should be faithful to the mother who is now bowing under the burdens of life and alone as the sole member of the household. Jasper never united with any church but for several weeks prior to his departure he called upon the Lord to forgive the errors of his ways and talked frequently to his Christian relatives, friends and acquaintances who visited him, of the Lord's pardoning grace. He was always an honorable and conscientious citizen in whom all his neighbors had the fullest confidence. He was a charter member of the Flat Rock Lodge I.O.O.F. The funeral was preached at the home by Rev. I. C. Tedford under the auspices of the Odd Fellows. Interment was in the Kent cemetery. ************************************************************************** USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
