Obituary of Peter B STIFLE, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Cindy McCachern Obituary from Robinson Daily 29 July 1948 Peter B. Stifle, son of George and Rachel Stifle, was born in Crawford County, Illinois, November 7, 1870, and passed away at the home of his daughter in San Francisco, California, on July 19, 1948 at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 12 days. On April 14, 1895, he was united in marriage to Edith May Shook of Bellair who preceded him in death on December 28, 1928. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. I. D. Reed, of San Francisco, and one son, Raymond Lewis, who passed away at the age of two years. Except for two years in Nebraska and ten years in Missouri he spent his entire life in Crawford and Jasper counties until two years ago when he went to live with his daughter in California. Peter Stifle engaged in farming as his life's occupation and was well known for his cheerful industry and kindly neighborliness in the communities where he lived. He will be remembered for his interest in his home and his devotion to his family. He leaves to mourn their loss one daughter, Mrs. I. D. Reed of San Francisco, two granddaughters, Mrs. Eleanor Coverdale and Dorothy Pearl also of San Francisco, one sister, Mrs. Nellie Russell of Willow Hill, and one brother, Lewis Stifle, of Georgetown, California. His many friends and neighbors will remember him as a man who met life with courage, who served his community well and who was a good friend to those who passed his way. Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, at 4:00 o'clock in the Marshall Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Mahan officiating. Burial was in the Mound cemetery. Card of Thanks I deeply appreciate all of the kindness shown me during my recent bereavement; the many flowers, cards and words of condolence which were a great solace to me.
