Obituary of Philander Morgan, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Virginia McClendon Philander Morgan, son of James and Hannah Ann Morgan, was born in Ohio December 2, 1852 and departed this life at the home of his daughter Mrs. Daisy Elkins, February 23, 1937. Mr. Morgan came to this county with his parents soon after his birth. Soon after this his parents died leaving him an orphan. While still an infant he was taken into the home and hearts of Uncle Dave and Grannie Mikeworth, who loved and cared for him as their own, a thing he appreciated all the days of his life. Probably because of the religious atmosphere of his home, he, in early life gave his heart to his Lord and united with the Prairie Methodist Church, where he remained a faithful member until the Lord called him to the church triumphant. January 21, 1878 he was happily married to Mary Ellen Daniels. To this union were born ten children. Two, Mariah Elizabeth and Ora died in infancy, the other eight survive. Mr. Morgan spent his life on his farm north of Stoy with his good wife until God called her home Oct. 23, 1920. He was a very kind and considerate father. He was greatly devoted to his children. He spent Sunday, February 21 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Davis and enjoyed the day very much. That evening he went back to the Elkins home, were he passed away Tuesday morning, February 23. How quickly the lamp of this physical life can go out, but not so with the spiritual, it "shineth more and more until the perfect day." The following children are left to morn his going: Mrs. Dora Ann Lackey, Stoy; Mrs. Stella May Plummer, Stoy; Mrs. Daisy Lurena Elkins, Robinson; Mrs. Josephine Hamilton, Palm Harbor, Fla; Mrs. Rose Emma McNabb or near Robinson; Mrs. Ella Belle Francis, Oblong; Mrs. Arizona Maudella Davis, near Stoy; Harlen Marion Morgan, of Kirk. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The drama of another life has been played, the curtains have been drawn and we bid bon voyage to another soul that has taken its flight. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
