The following was provided to the family by Hall's Funeral Home in Oblong, Illinois. "In Memory of Joseph Franklin SALEE" Joseph Franklin Salee was the son of John and Mary Jane Salee, born in Marion County near Lebanon, Kentucky, October 17, 1865. He grew to manhood in Kentucky and in April, 1889, he was united in marriage to Amanda Tucker, at this time moving to Illinois near Newton where he lived for a number of years, later moving to St. Marie, Illinois. To this union was born four children, Minnie Wade of St. Marie, Illinois and Jesse Salee of Bloomington, Indiana, who survive, two children, Daisy and Charlie having preceded him in death. This union was broken in 1889, when his wife was called to her reward. On December 18, 1907, he was united in marriage to Martha Almedia Schwenke of Robinson, Illinois, later moving to their home near Robinson where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Salee had been in failing health for a number of years, two years ago having suffered a partial stroke of paralysis from which he never completely recovered. On Sunday, February 23, he became seriously ill and on Sunday night, March 1, 1936, this union was broken by his departure at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 13 days. His father and mother, one brother, his first wife and two children having preceded him in death, his wife Martha, two children, Minnie Wade of St. Marie, Illinois and Jesse Salee of Bloomington, Indiana, one brother Elix and three sisters, Georgia Ann Tungett, Rose Tungett, and Emily Salee all of Marion, Kentucky, one step-daughter, Mrs. Viola Salee, five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren survive and a host of relative and friends who will mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at 2:30 P.M., March 3, 1936, in the M.E. church in Newton, Illinois, conducted by Lyle Mewmaw. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery at Newton. --------------------------------------------------------------------- UGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons. Jefferson, Great Grandaughter of Joseph F. Salee. Please note the above states he and his first wife were married in 1889 and that she died in 1889. I believe they were married in 1889, because of the birth date of the children, but have no idea when she really died.
