Obituary of Sarah Ann Thompson Stanfield, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Aged Lady Passes Away   Mrs. Soloman Stanfield Dies at her Home Here Monday   Sarah Ann, daughter of Levi and Frances Thompson, was born in Sullivan county, Indiana, June 22, 1848, and passed away at her home in Hutsonville, Ill., Jan. 22, 1917, aged 68 years and 7 months.   She was united in marriage to James Hall in 1870.  To this union were born two children, James Hall and Frances Hall of Hutsonville, who survive their mother and mourn her passing.  In 1879 she was again united in marriage to Solomon Stanfield.  To this union was born one son, John Stanfield, of this place who with her father survive their loved one.  Other near relatives surviving are four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Seymour Monk of Graysville, Ind.   At the age of sixteen years, Mrs. Stanfield united with the Christian church in Sullivan, but through various reasons became disinterested and upon her removal to this place in 1908 did not identify herself with the chruch.  In the closing months of her life, she again surrendered her heart to Christ, expressing the intention of uniting with the M. E. church of Hutsonville as soon as her health permitted. She passed away in a victorious faith just a few minutes after she had requested her pastor to pray for her and her family.   She was a good mother and faithful wife, bearing her long suffering with extreme patience and always deeply grateful for the tender ministering and loving care shown by loved ones and friends.  In the words of Charles Lamb:  "Men die but once, and the opportunity of a noble death is not an everyday fortune, it is a gift which noble spirits...."   Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, and were conducted by ther pastor, Rev. Allen S.
