Obituary of Salathiel LAMB, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Salathiel Lamb 17 November 1916, Oblong (IL) Oracle After an illness of several months caused by a complication of diseases, Rev. Salathiel Lamb died at his home in the north part of the city Monday morning. He was a minister in the Christian church and engaged in active service until his health failed a few years ago. The funeral services were held at Hardinsville, Wednesday morning and burial occurred in that city. Following is the obituary: Salathiel Lamb was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, April 14, 1826. He came to Crawford county, Ill. with his parents in the fall of 1836. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jones in the fall of 1851. To this union there was born one son, William D., deceased. Mrs. Lamb died August 15, 1853. In March 19, 1854, he was united in marriage with Martha Shipman. To this union there were born four daughters and two sons, Mary E., Elizabeth J., Charlotte E., Martha A., Stephen S. and Salathiel. One son and two daughters survive him. On Dec. 18, 1879 he was again united in marriage with Anna D. McConn who survives him and is left to mourn his death. In young manhood Brother Lamb confessed Christ, being baptized in the year of 1852. Shortly after his conversion, he entered the Christian ministry. He continued in the ministry until old age, devoting nearly sixty years of his life to the work. The greater part of his work has been done in Hardinsville, his home church, although he has preached in many places in this and the adjoining counties.
