Former Oblong resident dies (4/3/1978) William Joseph Myer, 42, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of 101 Alabama St., Oblong, died April 1 at the county hospital in Phoenix of burns suffered in a welding explosion March 3. Myer was born in Oblong, the son of Carl Myer, Wadesville, Ind. and Eva Jones Beery, Eureka, Nev. He was a veteran of the Korean War and had been a member of the Eaton Rapids, Mich. Masonic Lodge. He married Elizabeth Pasternak in California Dec. 24, 1953 who now resides in Oblong. Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey on Monterey, Calif., Gary of Hawaii and James of Oblong; one daughter, Pamela Myer of Oblong and one brother, Walter Gene Myer, address unknown. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong with the Rev. Brent Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery.
