To the Hon. John B. Harper, Judge of the County Court of Crawford County, in the State of Illinois. The Petition of the undersigned Lewis Maddox respectfully represents that John Stanfield late of the county of Crawford aforesaid departed this life in said County, on or about the 13th day of June A. D. 1874, leaving no last will and testament as far as your petitioners know or believes. And this petition further shows that the said John S. Stanfield died, seized and possessed of real and personal estate, consisting chiefly of horses, cattle, hogs, corn growing, etc... all of said personal estate being estimated to be worth about six hundred dollars. That said deceased left surviving him Hannah Stanfield his widow, and Samson Stanfield, Jesse Stanfield, William Stanfield, Fielden Stanfield, Mathew Stanfield, and the heirs of Nancy Thompson formerly Nancy Stanfield viz. Hannah Thompson, Demarius Higgins, John Thompson, Sampson Thompson, Jesse Thompson, Elias Thompson, his children as heirs. That your petitioner believing that the said estate should be immediately administered, as well for the proper management of said estate as for the prompt collection of the assets by virtue of a request of the widow who has right under the statute and her written ? therefore pray that your Honor will grant Letters of Administration to Lewis Maddox in the premises, upon his taking the oath prescribed by the Statute, and entering into bond in such sum and with securities, as may be approved by your honor. Maddox being duly sworn, deposes and says that the facts averred in the above petition are true, according to the best of his knowledge, information and belief.
