Ernest A. Leifheit, age 65, of 528 Oak Ave., Aurora, Illinois, passed away last Saturday evening, July 29, 1939, about 5:20 o'clock, at the East Side Hospital in Waterman, Illinois. Mr. Leifheit had not been in good health for some time, and had been a patient at the hospital the past seven weeks. Ernest, son of William and Minnie (Baie) Leifheit, was born August 6, 1874, in DeKalb County, Illinois. He grew to manhood in the Hinckley, Illinois, community, and on January 18, 1900, he was united in marriage to Louise Rathe. Their union was blessed with three sons and one daughter. One of the sons passed away when a small youngster. The Leifheit family resided for a number of years on the farm northwest of Hinckley now owned by Chris Papenberg and occupied by the Rudolph Miller family. They then moved into Hinckley where Mr. Leifheit ran a general store for some years in the old Wagner building, now the site of the Texaco service station. The family moved to Aurora about fifteen years ago (1924). He was survived by his wife, Louise, two sons, Herbert and Clarence; and one daughter, Mrs. Viola Head, all of Aurora; and seven grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters, William, Elmer, and Louis Leifheit, Mrs. Anna Anderson, and Mrs. Marie Rissman, of Hinckley, and Mrs. Rose Leifheit of Aurora, also survive; besides many other relatives and a host of friends. Three sisters preceded him in death, Clara Schroeder, Lena Miller, and Emma VonOhlen. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 31, at the Healy Chapel in Aurora, and at 2 o'clock from the Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Hinckley, where Mr. Leifheit was a member until last year when he transferred to Aurora. Reverend Krentz, pastor of the Saviour Lutheran Church of Aurora, officiated, and music was also furnished by members of that church. The pallbearers were Wm. Behrens and Amil Baie of Hinckley; Ed Borchers, Ed Boekenhauer, Albert Leifheit, and Ed Baie, of Waterman. Burial took place here in the Lutheran Church Cemetery.
