Asa Bates (born April 31 {sic}, 1799, in Pennsylvania, murdered
while on a buying trip in Illinois, 1847) and Lydia Jones
(August 21, 1803 - Oct. 16, 1871, in Clinton) were first cousins
and were married on November 23, 1826; they had the following
children:
