Biographical Sketch of Isaac A MORSE, DeWitt County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Lorraine Miller Genealogical Descent of Isaac A. Morse Lydia Bates, who was born March 11, 1742, near Boston, Massachusetts, married Joseph Morse, Sr. The only record of any children born to this couple is Joseph Morse, Jr., March 21, 1775, in Vermont. Joseph, Sr, died 1812. Joseph Morse, Jr., married Renuia Green, who was born on October 30, 1776, in Rhode Island. Joseph, Jr., his wife, Renuia, and his mother Lydia Bates Morse, moved to Union County, Ohio in the winter of 1818-1819 by ox drawn cart. They migrated from Coventry Township, Kent County, Rhode Island. The Father, Joseph, Sr., is buried in Rhode Island. Isaac Alpheus Morse, the twelfth child of Joseph, Jr., and Renuia Green Morse was born in Union County, Ohio on March 22, 1819. His wife was Lois Bailey, whom he married in Madison County, Ohio in 1838. They lived in Union County, Ohio until 1865, except for a brief time when they resided in Warsaw, Indiana. They were the parents of ten children-- Lucetta Jane, Mary Ann, Adeliza, Joseph Henry, Francis Lewis, Heber, Harriet Josephine, Alice Sylvania, William Nelson, and Lilly Renuia. Alice Sylvania and Harriet Josephine were born in Indiana while the rest of the children were born in Union County. In September of 1865, Isaac A. moved his wife and nine of his children to DeWitt County, Illinois. The eldest daughter, Lucetta Jane had married a Joseph Bidwell and remained in Madison County, Ohio. The second eldest daughter, Mary Ann had married a Henry C. Holycross who died in 1862 and she accompanied her parents to DeWitt County. Isaac passed away this July 25, 1907, in Clinton, Illinois. His wife, Lois Esther Bailey Morse, died May 4, 1896, in Clinton.
