Obituary of Joseph Henry Morse, DeWitt County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Lorraine Miller Appeared in the Clinton Journal, 1933 Joseph Morse, 88, Expired Here Friday Joseph Henry Morse, 88, former justice of the peace and deputy sheriff in DeWitt County, expired in the family home, 126 South George Street, yesterday afternoon at 1:40 o'clock of complica- tion of diseases. He had been ill for over a year. The deceased was born in Milford Center, O., Dec. 8, 1845, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Morse, He was united in marriage to the late Mary Elizabeth Leeds March 1, 1871. To this union four children were born. They are Mrs. Ollie Minor, Chicago; George Morse, Clinton; Eugene Morse, Waterloo, Ia., and Clayton Morse of Needles, California, One brother, Lewis Morse of Peoria also survives. A brother, Heber Morse, died here last Sunday and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Hickman, died in Springfield, two weeks ago. Mr. Morse served as constable in Clinton for 37 years and served as riding deputy under Sheriffs Minor Neal and Thomas Gardner. His term as justice of the peace expired last May. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted from Pullen's Chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
