Obituary of Mrs. Jane McGRAW, DeWitt County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Earliene Kaelin Name of Deceased: Mrs. Jane McGRAW Name of Newspaper: Clinton Register Date of Newspaper: 3 March 1910 Obituary: McGraw: Mrs. Jane McGRAW who died near South Downs, at the home of William WHITNEY, was taken to Amboy for burial. Mrs. McGRAW was born in Wexford County, Ireland, Nov. 1, 1839 and came to America in 1858 and settled at Amboy, Ill, where she made her home until last August when her failing health caused her to break up housekeeping and come to her sister's, Mrs. WHITNEY, southeast of Heyworth, near South Downs, where she made her home. She married Henry McGRAW of Amboy, in 1863, who was an engineer on the I.C.R.R. and was killed in an accident near LaSalle in 1885. She owned and managed a large general store in Amboy which she sold out last August. She united with the Episcopal church at an early age and remained true to her religion.
