Cox shot twice, but Simmons dodged and escaped unhurt. Both are young men and are unmarried. Cox had had a fracas with Sam Harvey the evening before. It was then Cox drew a knife and made for Harvey when Simmons knocked him down with a stool, and thus prevented a row for the time between them. But Cox did not stop at this. He immediatey got a revolver and hunted Simmons up. He commenced firing, but other parties interfered before any injury was inflicted. Cox is about 22 years of age and Simmons 26. Cox was arrested and placed under bond of $1,000 for an appearance at the next term of the circuit court of Douglas county on a charge of attempting to do murder. He gave bail in the sum of $1,000. Simmons then swore his life against Cox, and Cox gave a bond of $500 to keep the peace. Cox is a man who has hitherto always had an excellent character.
