60th Wedding Anniversary - Mr & Mrs Charles NEEL, DuPage & Lee County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Giles While doing volunteer data entry at our local library in Ontario, California, I came across this article which might be of some interest to someone on this list. This does not relate to any surname that I am researching personally. Nancy Mr and Mrs. Charles Neel Observe Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary Mr and Mrs. Charles F. Neel of 1130 Oaks avenue, who exchanged wedding vows on March 11, 1890, are one of few couples accorded the rare and happy privilege of celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary. For the happy occasion the couple was honored with a chicken dinner, given at Knott's Berry Farm, by their son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs. Paul Roscoe of LaVerne and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Holis M. Neel, of Ontario. Earlier in the week Mr and Mrs. Neel appeared on the "Bride and Groom" radio program where they gave advice to a newly wedded couple and were given wrist watches for being the oldest married couple present. Charles Neel and his wife, the former Lida Winbolt, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents in Lee Center, Illinois. In 1893 they moved to Wheaton, Illinois where Mr. Neel was engaged in the oil business, selling kerosene and gasoline from a horse-drawn tank to homes for heat and light, as there was no electricity in that city at the time. After raising short-horn cattle on a 200-acre ranch in Saline county, Nebraska, they moved to Ontario, where they have made their home for the past 22 years. Mr. Neel is still actively engaged in ranching. Mr. Neel, who is 82, and Mrs. Neel, age 78, have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
