Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary Newspaper Clipping, Franklin Waldo Godwin & Louise McNutt Dated Thursday, June 23, 1932, Newspaper Unknown "Celebrate Anniversary of Wedding 50 Years Age" "Memories Revived in Reunion for Family of F.W. Godwin" Memories that reached back to the Hinsdale of a half century were recounted by Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Godwin when on Sunday the happy family gathered in reunion commenorating their golden wedding anniversary. Although the celebration was belated by a few days owning to a number of the children living at a distance not being able to reach home on the anniversary date, June 15th, the even was none the less momentous and joyful. Only the immediate family were guests at the banquet dinner held at the Harwood Tea House in Western Springs, which included the five children and their families, three sons and two daughters, Henry [Jordan] of Minneapolis, Rob't F. [Robert Franklin] of Cincinnati, Hiram [Frederick] of Detroit, Mrs. Chas. [Dorothy, wife of Charles] S. Holcomb of Hinsdale and Miss Edna Godwin of Western Springs. There are nine grandchildren. The long banquet table held glowing significance of the event in lovely decorations which were effectively carried out in bouquets and dainty appointments of gold and white. Following the dinner the family returned to the Godwin home in 4047 Forest [A]venue Western Springs, where they were greeted by many old time friends who came to extend hearty congratulations and best wishes. Mr. and Mrs. Godwin's long residence in Hinsdale and its vicinity having been enriched by scores of admiring friends. Franklin W. Godwin was born in Chicago, September 12, 1849 [probably September 10, 1848] while Mrs. Godwin was a native of Cambridge, Ohio, born July 24, 1864. A short while after their marriage which took place in Chicago, June 15, 1882, they took up their residence for a few years on a farm adjacent to Hinsdale known as the adjacent to Hinsdale known as the Chas. Plummer farm [Charles Plummer was married to Franklin's sister Elizabeth] on Ogden [a]venue. Later they moved into the village where they resided for twenty years in the Donahue house, 30 North Lincoln [S]treet, now the residence of the Norman Jefferson family. Their children were educated in the Hinsdale schools and enjoyed the social life of the village. Mr. Godwin has spent the great part of his life in the insurance business though for a few years he with his son Robert carried on the Godwin Fuel & Supply Company on the south side of the city. During the engagement in the fuel business, Mr. and Mrs. Godwin took up their residence in Chicago but later moved to Western Springs where they have enjoyed the environments of suburban life, and kept in close touch with their old friends made in Hinsdale in the earlier days. Although Mr. Godwin has reached the advanced age of 83 years he has been able to commute to and from Chicago occasionally and carried on his insurance work in a small degree to his much enjoyment. The only unpleasantness that came to mar the celebrative occasion was brought through the sudden illness which befell Mr. Godwin on Saturday, preventing him from taking active part in Sunday's events. In fact, as the day wore on, his condition became so alarming that it was found advisable to remove him to the Presbyterian Hospital where he is still confined and under observation and treatment.
