Obituary of Alfred Baber, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Alfred Baber The Kansas Journal, Edgar Co, IL, Thursday, September 10, 1925 Alfred Baber passed away Friday at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. John Cook, near Newman. Mr. Baber was 87 years of age, but physically strong until three weeks ago. The funeral was held in this city Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. R. Zimmerman, at whose home Mr. Baber had lived for several years. The service was conducted by Rev. H. M. Brooks of Paris assisted by Rev. E. W. Bowers. Interment was made at Pleasant Hill cemetery. Mr. Baber, the son of George and Nancy Wilson Baber, was born at the old homestead near Pleasant Hill. He was married to Lavina Arterburn in 1861. He spent his entire life in this vicinity and was the last number of his immediate family. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Allie Horning, Lancaster, Pa., Mrs. Lizzie Bennett, Marshall, E. A. Baber, Paris, and Mrs. W. R. Zimmerman of this city. There are also surviving, 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Among those from out-of-town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. W. A. Malone, Cincinnati, Ohio; Miss Blanche Baber, Mrs. George Baber, Mrs. Lema Boatman, Mrs. Robert Hammond, Mrs. C. D. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cornwell, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Yates, Mr. and Mrs. Adin Baber, Paris; Mr. and Mrs. D. D.
