Obituary of Lucetta Frances Rogers Huston Bird, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Lucetta Frances Rogers Huston Bird Thursday, 22 September 1927, Kansas (IL) Journal Mrs. John Bird passed away suddenly Sunday morning about 6:30 o'clock at her home on North street. Her death came as a shock to her relatives and neighbors, as she had been in good health until about a week ago when she fell, causing an injury to her knee, but at no time did this become serious. A few moments before the end came Mr. Bird was assisting his wife in dressing the injured member, when she gasped and in a short time expired, death resulting from a heart attack. The funeral was conducted at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. W. Kowalsky, assisted by Rev. H. C. Munch. Music was rendered by the Grandview male quartet. Pall bearers were T. S. Wright, J. B. Cornwell, E. R. Hutton, F. M. Vickrey, W. S. Wiley, B. H. Pinnell. Interment was made in Grandview cemetery. Lucetta Frances Rogers was born at Grandview May 12, 1858. On February 20, 1890, she was married to Peter Huston who passed away April 20, 1910. Two children were born to this union, Emma Ethel, of Tulsa, Okla. and Harlan Husto of California. On Dec. 9, 1944, the deceased was united in marriage with John Bird of Kansas and has since made her home in this city. Mrs. Bird united with the Grandview Presbyterian church several years ago and transferred her membership to the local Presbyterian church Mar. 29, 1917. She was a devoted member of the home department of the Sunday school and took a great interest in all activities of the church whether she was in attendance or not. When she was not permitted to attend the regular church service on Sunay, she always inquired as to the subject of the sermon and the scripture lesson that she might read it from her Bible. She was a kind neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband, Mrs. Bird leaves one brother, John A. Rogers, of Little Rock, Ark., a half brother, Eli A. Rogers of Charleston, one sister, Mrs. Mary Richey, and many other relatives and friends. A brother, George Rogers, passed away three weeks ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
