Bird Dies on Monday Afternoon; Interment at Grandview Mrs. Corea M. Bird passed away at her home on East North street Monday afternoon after an illness of the past several months. For a short time this spring she was a patient in Union hospital in Terre Haute. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Christian church. All arrangements had been previously made by Mrs. Bird. The Rev. C. J. Grimes, of Palestine, former neighbor of the Bird family and a former pastor of the Kansas Presbyterian church, officiated, assisted by the Rev. R. N. Montague of LaPlace and the Rev. B. S. M. Edwards, pastor of the Christian church. In his eulogy, Rev. Grimes paid tribute to Mrs. Bird as a wonderful mother, wife and neighbor. While she herself was nevr strong, she gave unsparingly of her strength to her family and friends. Members of the Grandview quartet, Arnold Blair, I. B. Clapp, Martin and Henry Schneider, accompanied by Mrs. Schneider, sang "Going Down the Valley," and "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer," two of Mrs. Bird's favorite hymns. Casket bearers were Roe Redman, E. H. Kerans, W. S. Wiley, Preston Shade, Spencer Anderson, and L. M. Borders of Charleston. The many lovely floral tributes were cared for by Mesdames R. R. Tate, Martin Schneider, Oscar Hickman of Grandview, Mrs. Jesse Swango of Paris, and Mrs. Charles Pinnell. All but Mrs. Pinnell were member of Mrs. Bird's school class. Interment was made in Grandview cemetery. Margaret Pearl Bird was born in Grandview Oct. 8, 1884, the daughter of James and Evelyn Wallace. On Dec. 31, 1905, she was united in marriage with Corea M. Bird of this city. To this union six children were born, one infant having preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband and the following children: Paul Bird, Charleston, Mrs. Harry Bennett, Kansas; Mrs. John Montague and Mrs. Samuel J. Marshall, both of Washington, D. C. and Miss Pauline, at home. One brother, William Wallace, of Grandview, and a granddaughter, Dorma Lucille Bennett, also survive.
