Obituary of Jeremiah CORNWELL, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Jeremiah Cornwell Kansas (IL) Journal, 19 July 1897 The death of Jeremiah Cornwell, father of the Eagle House proprietor, occurred at that hotel at midnight, Wednesday. Mr. Cornwell came over from Kansas to visit his son and while here was prostrated with congestion of the bowels, which terminated fatally after several days of acute suffering. The decased was a native of Kentucky, being born in Jefferson Co, that state, April 27th, 1820. He was married in 1812 to Miss Harriet Arterburn, who survives him, together with Theodore, or as he is familiar known, "Dade," proprietor of the Eagle House, and Crawford, at present residing in Danville. Three children are decased. Immediately following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Cornwell went to Hunter Twp, this county, subsequently moving to Kansas Twp, where they have since made their home. The deceased was a farmer by vocation and enjoyed the entire respect and esteem of all with whom he was associated in the business and social relations of life. He has been for many years a consistent member of the Christian church, being sustained in his last hours by that faith which he has made the daily guide of his life. Many years have been vouchsafed to him and in the ripeness of an honored old age he has been called from earth to enter upon the heritage which awaits the faithful on the other side of time. Funeral services will be conducted at Pleasant Hill Church, four miles southwest of Grandview Friday. Interment being made in the adjacent cemetery. Elder H. M. Brooks will be the officiating minister.--Paris Beacon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
