Obituary of Miss Celia Evinger, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Celia Evinger Kansas (IL) Journal, Thursday, 7 July 1938 Miss Celia Evinger Dies in Jacksonville Hospital Ill only a few weeks--funeral and burial here on Tuesday Miss Celia Evinger, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Evinger, passed away Saturday in Jacksonville following a serious major operation which she underwent in a hospital in that city. A short service was held in Jacksonville Tuesday morning, following which the body was brought to the Forbes- Hutchins funeral home in this city and the funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Christian church with the pastor, the Rev. B. S. M. Edwards, in charge. Interment followed in Fairview cemetery. The casket bearers were John Pinnell, John M. Hite and Dr. J. B. W. Brown, Walter S. Wiley, Homer Roberts. Miss Celia Evinger was born in Kansas, August 24, 1878. She attended the schools in Kansas and later took a course in nurse training at St. Luke's hospital in Chicago. Following her graduation, she followed nursing for a time and then took up public health work at Maywood. She continued with the public health work until her death and in this field became quite well known and proficient. She served for one year as county nurse in this county and later did similar work in White county and Champaign county before going to Jacksonville where she was employed in the city health department. Last winter she started a baby health club which met with a generous response and stands today as quite an achievement in itself. Miss Evinger was unaware that anything serious was the matter with her and just three weeks before her death was in Kansas attending the funeral of a friend, but her trouble developed quickly and resulted in death.
