Obituary of William Henry Evinger, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of William Henry Evinger Kansas (IL) Journal, Thursday, 4 August, 1927 William Henry Evinger passed away Friday evening in Chicago at the home of his daughter, Miss Celia Evinger, with who he has made his home for the past few years. The body was brought to this city on Sunday and the funeral service was held at the Christian church Sujnday afternoon, conducted by the pastor the Rev. S. F. Spainhower. The quartet composed of Mrs. R. H. McKnight, Miss Olive Honn, George Boyars, adn George Walton sang, "Jesus Lover of my Soul," and "When My Soul Reaches Home," with Miss Delilah Nay at the piano. Pall bearers were Ray Delap, Wilbur Honn, William Rhodes, Leland Honnold, Dr. F. R. Woods and Ray Perkinson. Honorary bearers were elders and deacons of the Christian church. William Henry Evinger was born March 16, 1815 at Westfield, and was 82 years of age at the time of his death. He was married to Eliza Wilhoit, who preceded him in death three years ago and since that time he has made his home in Chicago with his daughter, Miss Celia Evinger. Three children susvive, Miss Celia, of Chicago, Carlos of Terre Haute, and Vernon of Paris. A daughter, Mrs. Charles Spangler, passed away a short time ago. Mr. Evinger spent the greater part of his life in Kansas where he was well known and highly respected. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and for years was a member of the official board of the Christian church.
