Obituary of Martha Redmon Kirkham, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Martha Redmon Kirkham Kansas (IL) Journal, 20 October 1910 Mrs. Martha Kirkham, wife of James H. Kirkham and a lifelong resident of Edgar County, passed away at the family residence at 11:30 o'clock Sunday evening, death being attributed to peritonitis. Mrs. Kirkham became ill some weeks ago, since which time her decline has been very rapid, death resulting after a period of intense suffering and being not unexpected. Martha Ann Redmon was born near here, June 8, 1845. she was raised in this country and spent her entire life here, being highly respected by all who knew her. She was married to James H. Kirkham, her surviving husband, and is survived by six children; Helton Claude, Mrs. Jas. Hays, Mrs. Joyn Hayes, Mrs. Arthur Hayes, all residing near here, and Miss kate Kirkham, residing at home. A peculiar circumstance is conneced with her children is the fact that three of her daughters married three brothers. Besides her husband and children, the deceased is survived by two brothers and three sisters, as follows; E. H. Redmon of Terre Haute, Harry Redmon of Martinsville, Ind., Mrs. M. L. Petty of Terre Haute, Mrs. Kate Thomas and Mrs. W. G. Lee of Casey, Illinois. The funeral took place from the family residence at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, Rev. F. B. Thomas of the Christian church of which she was a member officiating.
