Obituary of John Rufus Wilhoit, Edgar County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of John Rufus Wilhoit John Rufus Wilhoit Answers Final Call With a heavy heart we announce the death of J. R. Wilhoit, which occured at his home near here, Tuesday evening at 5:30 o'clock, after a brief illness. Mr. Wilhoit was born in Jefferson County, Ky, April 18, 1821, and with his parents, Julius and Lucy Wilhoit, came overland from Kentucky to Kansas township in 1830, settling October 4, upon the farm which his father died in 1833. He remained at home with his mother until twenty six years old, and has since been engaged in general farming in Kansas township. The deceased united in marriage with Miss Angeline Cornwell, March 18, 1847, who died May 31, 1904 and to this union six children were born as follows: Miss Elizabeth living at home; Mrs. Fred Smith of Grandview; Mrs. J. E. Pinnell, R. O. Wilhoit, and J. Y. Wilhoit of Kansas, Ill., and Miss Lulu living at home. Mr. Wilhoit was an old pioneer and one of nature's noblemen in its truest sense--rave, generous and manly. He was the soul of honor, and his friends and friendships were sacred to him. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a faithful friend. To the broken hearted family, who sit in sorrow where his footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend our sincere sympathy and may the peace that passeth all understanding come to them from one who cares and the savior of us all. The funeral will be conducted at the late residence, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Grandview cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
