Griffin was the son of Winston & Susan Griffin. Born in 1845 he joined the 62nd IL regiment during the Civil War when it returned to Edgar Co., IL. for leave in 1863. This was the same unit his brother James Leonard Griffin had joined earlier. The unit then proceeded to Pine Bluff AK where he died, like most Civil War soldiers, of an unknown illness on 9/28/1864. He is buried at the National Cementery along with other men from the 62nd in Little Rock, AK. He was only 19.
