Casey Daily Reporter 

Edythe Matilda F. Gust was born on July 28, 1891 to Charles J. Draves and 
Sarah J. Goodwin Draves at Dieterich, Illinois. She passed away at 5:45 p.m. 
April 30, 1970 at the Casey Nursing Home at the age of 78 years and 9 months.

When Edythe was seven years old, her mother passsed away and she then became a 
member of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tinnea of Dieterich. On Oct. 24, 
1911, she was married in the Dieterich St. John's Lutheran Church to Otto T. 
F. Gust, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1963. Left as survivors are: one 
daughter, Mrs. Alyce Groothuis of Casey; one sister, Mrs. Eva Hoelscher of 
Champaign; one brother, Lewis Draves of Champaign, nine grandchildren and six 
great grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides the husband were one 
daughter, Mrs. Ruth Nelson; one brother, Edward Draves; one sister, Martha 
Schroeder, and one great grandchild, Catherine Cottrill. 

Edythe was baptized at the age of 2 months at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 
Bishop Township, Effingham County. Later she and her husband became members of 
the Dieterich Methodist Church and on moving to Casey, transferred their 
membership to the Casey Methodist Church. The deceased was a devout Christian 
and worked untiring for her church and willingly served mankind in any way she 
could. 

Funeral services were held Monday May 4, at the United Methodist Church with 
Rev. Harvey Dibrell officiating. Burial was in the Casey-Cumberland cemetery. 
Pallbearers were: Keith Gust, Layton Davis, Lawrence Devore, Gene Feldkamp, 
Glenn Draves, Woodrow Percival.
