Mrs. Heiken, a daughter of Gottlieb and Caroline (Zafke) Gust, was born December 16, 1864, in Schneitersmuhl, Germany. When only a few weeks old she was brought to America by her parents.They settled in Westville, Indiana. There she received the sacrament of Holy Baptism in the Lutheran church. Later the parents moved to Montrose, and there, after due instruction in the Word of God, she received the right of confirmation at St. Paul's Lutheran church north of Dieterich. On April 15, 1885, she was united in marriage with Fred Goebel at St. Paul's Lutheran church. This union, which continued for 35 years, was blessed with four children. The husband and two of the children, Golda and Walter, preceded her in death. On June 5, 1923, Alvina Gust Goebel was united in marriage with Henry Heiken moved to Holyrood, Kansas, and made their home there until his death on April 27, 1935. A few years later Mrs. Heiken moved to Effingham, to live with her daughter, Golda. When her daughter died she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Augusta Isley of Newton and her son Edward Goebel of Montrose. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and a member of St. John's Ladies Aid in Effingham. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Augusta Isley of Newton; her son, Edward Goebel of Montrose; one brother, Gottlieb Gust of Casey; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church in Effingham with the pastor, Rev. Zimmerman officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery north of Dieterich, with the Bauer funeral home of Effingham in charge. Mrs. Heiken is a cousin of Mrs. Minnie Lockwood and Mrs. Bertha Fritscher of Dieterich.
