On the top is St. Elmo, F (the rest is clipped off) MRS. S. M. McGRAW One of the largest funerals St. Elmo people have witnessed in some time occurred last Saturday, when the last sad rites preparatory to the consigning to the earth from whence it came, of all that was mortal of Mrs. S. M. McGraw took place. The chruch was crowded and the audience plainly showed their sympathy for the bereaved relatives and their appreciation of the many virtues of the deceased, by the shedding of the sympathetic tear, which unites us in one universal brotherhood. The suddenness of Mrs. McGraw's death shocked the entire community, the fact that she was evidently in the prime of health, having gone up town the night preceding her death, made it seem impossible that grim death had claimed her for his own. Rev. B.S. Smith delivered the funeral sermon, Rev. H.T. Eaton, her former pastor following with a few well chosen remarks. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Maplewood cemetery by the side of her daughter, Della, to await the resurrection of the quick and the dead. May Dickens was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia, July 14, 1866, and departed this life June 7, 1906, aged 39 years 10 months, and 23 days. With her parents she moved to Indiana at 9 years of age, remaining there but a short time, when the family removed to Illinois where she has since resided. She was married to Samuel M. McGraw on October 27th 1888. About 15 years ago with her husband she joined the M.E. chruch at Avena, and was up to the time of her death, a faithful and consistent member of the chruch. She was a mother of six children, three of whom survive her. She leaves to mourn her untimely departure a husband, four sisters and two brothers, an aged father and a host of friends. Mrs. McGraw was a dutiful and loving wife, a fond mother, and a kind and obliging neighbor, ever ready to help others in time of sickness or death. She was a member of the Rebekahs, who assisted at the funeral and interment by their impressive ceremonies of respect to the departed. Mrs. McGraw will be sadly missed at the family circle, and by her many friends and acquaintances.
