Fayette Co, Illinois Newspaper Obituary Vandalia Union 25 July 1912 Sabra Charlotte ELAM, daughter of thomas and Elizabeth (ELAM) ELAM, was born in Bond County, Illinois, November 10,1835. Departed this life July 19, 1912, aged 76 years, 8 Months and 9 days. She was united in marriage to Lawrence ELMORE in 25 February 1852. To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded her to the great beyond. The Surviving ones are daughter Mrs. Henry (Sarah Elizabeth (ELMORE))BESS, daughter Mrs.James (Martha Jane (ELMORE)) MCFARLAND, son William T.(William Thomas) ELMORE of Springfield,Illinois and daughter Lucy Ellen ELMORE of Pasadena, California. She was again united in marriage to Richard BROWN in April 1875. Widowed again, she was wedded to "Wilse"(Willaimson) BROWNING in September 1878. She professed faith in Christ in 1857 and united with Liberty Baptist Church. Later removed her membership to Bethal Baptist Church (west of Vandalia in Shafter Twp. Fayette Co, Ill.) and remained a faithrul christian until called to her reward. She leaves to mourn her departure besides her children, two brothers, T. A. ELAM, of Bond Co, Illinois and "Ned" Edward ELAM, of Oklahoma, twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. Lawrence & Sabra Charlotte (ELAM) ELMORE(were my paternal 2nd great-grandparents. Sabra Charlotte (ELAM) ELMORE was a charter member of Bethal Baptist Church. She donated the old brass hurricane lamp, that hung in the pulpit, to the church. I remember seeing it as a child and was still hanging there before we moved to Maroa, Illinois, when I was 15. I don't know if it is still there after their seversl remodeling jobs over the years. Informant was (her grandson Sylvester the son of her daughter Martha Jane (ELMORE) and James Lloyd McFARLAND) Vester (Sylvester) McFARLAND of Vandalia, Illinois. Burial was in Bethleham Cemetery (west of Vandalia). Death Certificate #273. Obituary shows date of birth as November 10, 1852 and her mother was Elizabeth (ELAM) ELAM. She (Sabra) married # 1 (February 25) 1852 Lawrence ELMORE, # 2 (April) 1875 Richard BROWN, # 3 (September) 1878 Wilse (Williamson) BROWNING. Children daughters Mrs. Henry(Sarah Elizabeth(ELMORE)) BESS, Mrs (James)Martha J.(Jane)MCFarland, Lucy Ellen ELMORE, of California and sons, William T.(Thomas) ELMORE, of Springfield(Illinois) and Hiram ELMORE, of Vandalia, (Ill.) Two brothers survive, T.A. ELAM and Ned (Edward) ELAM, of Oklahoma.
