The little girl, six years old, started to cross the street and ran directly in front of the passing car. She was picked up immediately and carried to the hotel where she lived with her grandfather, Lee Grandfield, (Stanfield) who is proprietor of the hotel. It was found that she had sustained concussion of the brain and this was ascribed as the cause of her death by Dr. A. M. Fromm, who attended her. An inquest was held Wednesday evening by Coroner W. C. Dycus. At the inquest Aaron Casey, an eyewitness of the accident, related how it happened and exonerated the driver of the car, as did also the grandfather of the child. The coroner's jury ascribed the cause of death to the accident and to conscussion of the brain. The jury consisted of the following: W. B. Cashin, Ben Martin, Lee Stanbery, James McBridge, Dale Hauskins, and C. W. Turner. A week before Imogene had fallen against a car at the Fox Hunt grounds and cut a deep gash above her left eye. This had to be bandaged, and it is thought as this obstructed her sight to a certain extent, is why she didn't see the car coming from the north, that ran over her, as she was waiting for a car coming from the south and when it passed, ran directly in front of the car from the north. The driver of the car that cause the accident was very much broken up over the accident and did everything in his power to assist and show his deep regret of the accident. The little child was of a very bright, cheerful disposition and was well known and loved by many. The accident occured on her 6th birthday and she was very happy anticipating to start to school this fall. Her funeral was held in the M. E. church, Friday afternoon at 3:00. ***************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
