W. Samuelson Passes Away at the Age of 84 Mr. A. W. Samuelson, 84, resident of Paxton for the past sixty years, passed away on Sunday morning at 1:40 o’clock in his home, 236 E. Patton St. Mr. Samuelson had been in declining health since Christmas and his final illness was but two weeks. The deceased, son of Carl August and Sophia Bengston Samuelson, was born in Östergötland, Sweden, Feb. 19, 1859. At the age of nine years he came to America with relatives who located in Indiana. Later they moved to Illinois, locating near Paxton, where the deceased spent the remainder of his life. In [17 Jan] 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Bjorkland, of Paxton. The new home was established in this city. To the union were born seven children, two dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Carl Bengston, of Los Angeles, Calif; Mrs Austie E. Laurence, of Paxton; Mrs. W. F. Johnston, of Champaign, and one son, Carl Samuelson, of Paxton. Other surviving his passing are four grandchildren two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Johnson, of Paxton, and Mrs. Charlotte Rasmus of Chicago. A son, Harry, of Los Angeles, Calif., preceded him in death, three years ago. Mr. Samuelson, who was associated with local hardware dealers for thirty-five years, retired in 1919. Had he lived until next January he and his good wife would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. His death has removed one of the city’s highly respected and beloved residents who enjoyed the respect, good will and confidence of all who knew him. The news of his passing has been received by his countless number of friends with genuine sorrow. Funeral services for Mr. A. W. Samuelson, whose passing occurred Easter morning at 1:40 o’clock in his home, 236 E Patton St. were held at 2:30 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon in the Newman & Brown Funeral Home. Rev. Rudolph Johnson, pastor of the Mission Covenant church, officiated. During the services, which were largely attended, Miss Esther Sandstedt, accompanied by Mrs. John McKinney at the organ, sang the favorite hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross” and Abide With Me.” At the close of the services interment took place in Glen cemetery with Messars. Edward Carlson, Ernest Magnuson, Oscar Swanson, Gust Palmberg, Walter Lindberg and D. C. Swanson serving as pallbearers. The beautiful flowers were arranged by Mrs. Harry Swanson, Mrs. Gust Palmberg, Mrs. Sidney Elofson and Mrs. Lillie Erickson. Among those from out of town who attended the rites were Mrs. E. H. Holmes, Mrs. Edward Lindquist, Mrs. Henry Peterson, Mrs. Lewis Hammerstrom and daughter, of Chicago; Mrs. Augusta Bjorklund and daughters, Minnie and Amy, Mrs. Charles Flexman, Mr. Arthur Bjorklund, of Hooperston; Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson and family, of Cayuga, Ind.; Mrs. Albert Laurence, of Armstrong; Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Thompson of Melvin; Mrs. R. A. Overshriner, Mrs. Julius J. Herchfield, Mrs. Leo O’Neill, Mrs. Tom Maber, Mrs. Robert Milligan, Mrs. H. C. Munkvold, Mrs. Reuben Carlson, Mrs. Harold Johnson and Mrs. Ted Mooney, of Champaign.
