The following obituaries are of Frank N. Atwood. 1st Obit dated Aug 24, 1949. Carries a nice picture of a white headed man wearing a suite, white shirt and tie and round rim glasses. Last Rites 2 pm Friday for Frank N. Atwood, 77, Former Commissioner. Funeral services for Frank Atwood, 77, will be held at the Washington Ave. Baptist church by Elder C.M. Weaver and Rev. Frank Tebow. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near his farm and on which he lived before moving to Johnston City more than 25 years ago. Mr. Atwood, who served as county commissioner for six years, died Wednesday morning at 4:30 am. He had in ill health several months and became critically ill last week and his son, Lee Atwood was summoned from Long Beach, Calif. Besides his son, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lydia Atwood and a daughter, Mrs. Orvil Kelley. Also surviving are three stepchildren Ira Hays of Christopher, Otho Hays of Newman and Ethel Cox of Berwyn, three sisters, Mrs. Ada Odum of Benton, Mrs. Ida Dillon of Gary, Ind., Mrs. Ella Moore of this city and tow brothers Edgar Atwood of this city and Roy Atwood of Marion RFD. Six grand children and four great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Atwood was born Feb 14, 1872 at Spillertown to Buch and Elizabeth Atwood. He was a schoolteacher for many years and lived on a farm in the Western Star school district. He was married to Mary Jones, daughter of Levi and Hester Jones, who preceded him in death. On Jan 20, 1912 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Lydia Hayes. Second smaller obit without picture is dated in ink as Aug 24, 1949. Newspaper unknown. Frank Atwood, 77, died today; Pioneer of Johnston City. Frank Atwood, 77, a resident of Johnston City, for 40 years, died at 4:30 o'clock this morning. The family home is at 1306 Monroe street in Johnston City. Atwood was born in Spillertown and lived all his life in the Johnston City community. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Washington Avenue Baptist church in Johnston City. The body will lie in state after 7 o'clock tonight at the family home. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. O. Kelley of Johnston City; a son Lee Atwood, Long Beach Calif.; two step-sons Ira Hayes, Christopher, and Otho Hayes of Newman; a step daughter, Mrs. Maurice Cox of Berwyn; three sisters, Mrs. Ada Odum of Benton, Mrs. Ira Dillon of Gary, Ind, and Mrs. Ella Moore of Johnston City. Two brothers, Edgar Atwood of Johnston City and Roy Atwood of Spillertown. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Funeral rites will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Washington Avenu Baptist church in Johnston City with Elder C.M. Weaver and Rev. Frank Tebow officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Creek cemetery, two and one half miles southeast of Johnston City.
