Obit of Sam Alhs Dated in ink as Mar 31, 1955. Newspaper unknown but probably Johnston City Progress. Last Rites for Sam Alhs Held Here Sunday PM Funeral services for Samuel Ahls, 84, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Murman and Wilson funeral home, by Rev. Vernon Moore and Rev. Charles R. Walker. Interment was in the Marion cemetery. Death claimed the former Johnston City resident Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Olin Shirley in Gary Ind. He had been ill for six years. Mr. and Mrs Ahls had been living with their daughter and family for the past 17 months. Deceased was born in Murphysboro June 22, 1870 to John and Elizabeth Steele Ahls. He was married to Maggie Fleming near Johnston City May 6, 1906. Mr. and Mrs Ahls lived on a farm south of this city until moving to this city several years ago. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Eileen Waterbury of Corpus Christi, Texas and Mrs. Shirley; a son, Fleming of Gary, and three grandchildren.
