Obit of L.L. Clayton Dated in by hand in ink as Mar 29, 1956. Newspaper unknown. L.L. Clayton, Johnston City attorney who lived at 1305 Jefferson Street there, died at 3 am today at the Franklin hospital at Benton. Ill for almost two years, he entered the hospital a week ago and underwent major surgery. For over 41 years he had been associated with his brother J.H. Clayton, former city judge of Johnston City, in a law, real estate and insurance firm. A native of Williamson County, he had spent his entire life there. His parents Walter E. and Cora Harper Clayton, were pioneer settlers of the Johnston City area. Clayton was a member of the First Baptist church and Masonic lodge at Johnston City. He was a past master of the lodge and a member of the East St. Louis consistory. He was a charter member of the Johnston City Rotary Club and past president. He also served over 20 years as secretary of the club. An ex-mayor of Johnston City, he was also at one time its city clerk, and had been a member of both the grade and high school boards there. Survivors in addition to his wife Vida, and his brother are a son, Paul Clayton, Vincennes, Ind., and three sisters, Mrs. Harry Hiller, Fredrick, Colo.; Mrs. Mark Ferges, Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Ruby Miller, St. Louis. The body will lie in state after 6 pm today at the Murman-Wilson funeral home in Johnston City, where funeral rites will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Rev Charles R. Walker, pastor of the First Baptist Church at Johnston City, will officiate. The casket will be closed before the funeral. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery at Marion.
