Obit of Albert Hendrickson Dated in by hand in ink as Mar 25, 1952? (Date smeared). Newspaper unknown. Albert Hendrickson, Mail Carrier, Dies Death came early Saturday morning to Albert (Pete) Hendrickson, 65, mail carrier in this city 28 years. He had been in ill health since his retirement four years ago. He had been critically ill the past three weeks and last week was taken to Herrin Hospital for an operation. He had previously been a patient in the hospital and death was thought to have been caused by a heart ailment. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Christian church, conducted by R.E. Walston, pastor, and burial was at Fountain cemetery south of Marion under the auspices of the American Legion. In route to the cemetery the hearse and following cars narrowly escaped a traffic accident when a car approaching at high speed crashed into a car which had slowed upon meeting the cortege, and hurled it across the highway between the hearse and the cars following. Mr. Hendrickson was born in New York Mar 5, 1880 and had lived here for 32 years. As a mail carrier on the west side he was well liked by all for his efficient service and jovial disposition. He was able to talk with many of his patrons of foreign birth in their native tongue. He liked football and baseball and let all know that he was for the Chicago Bears during the fall and winter and the Cubs during the summer. Surviving are his widow the former Effie Smith, one daughter Mrs. Paul Odum, of this city, one grand daughter, one half-sister Mrs. Virgil Hudgens, Marion Rt. 5 and a step brother, Claude Philips, Ensley, Ala. A veteran of World War 1 he was a member of the American Legion and also of the First Christian Church.
