He was an Austrian by birth and in 1825 arrived at Bordentown, N. J. with Lucian Murat. Soon after his arrival he entered the service of Joseph Bonaparte, as valet de chambre and remained a close companion until the king's death. He came to Illinois in 1853 and has since resided in Fulton county.
