Carter, for many years a well known resident of Fulton County, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Williams, 912 East Olive Street, following three moths of illness, due chiefly to infirmities of advanced age. He was born April 7, 1827 in Ohio, and came to Illinois many years ago. He was twice married, his second wife having died about three years ago. Her maiden name was Martha Ruark, and their marriage was solemnized in Lewistown forty-eight years ago. For many years the family lived near Breeds, and decedent had been a resident of Canton about seven years at the time of his death. Surviving children by the second marriage are Andrew J. Carter of Aurora, division superintendent of the Aurora division of the Burlington Railroad, and formerly chief of police in Canton and operator previously in local railroad stations. Mrs. Robert Williams, James Carter, and Mrs. Allie Lewis of Canton, and W. H. Carter and Frank Carter of Wyoming. One son by this marriage is dead. Children by a former marrieage are Mrs. Lincoln Hews of Boonesville, MO: Mrs. James Barlow of Red Cloud, Neb; and Mrs. Frank Kyle of Eden, IL. Mr. Carter was a member of Christian church and a citizen esteemed by a wide circle of friends who will regret to learn that his long and useful life is ended.
