Gallatin County, Illinois , Census 1830 (Transcriber's notes) Transcribed by: Mary Hudson mahud@rollanet.org Proof read by: Helen Masterson mahud@rollanet.org from: Book furnished by S&K Publishing Original Census Taker: Harrison Wilson Examined and corrected by J. H. Polk Townships are as follows: The townships (according to the 1830 census as sold by the Saline County Genealogical Society) are as follows: Town of Shawneetown, Shawneetown Township, Cave-in-Rock Township, Equality Township, Monroe Township, Cane Creek Township and Saline Township. Weed's Salt Works, and the other one is Guard's Works or (saltworks). Guard's saltworks were located near Equality and it is believed that Weed's got his water from the Lower Lick and was located east of the Island Ripple (Riffle) on the Saline River in what is now Shawneetown Township. The above Salt Works facts are supported by the Weeds Salt Works being next to the Shawneetown; and the Guard Saltworks being next to the Equality Township census records. I was never able to read a Cave-in-Rock in the fine print of the township names. All which started with a "C" appeared to be the Cane Creek township. Where there is found the * one or more this indicates either a letter or name to be unreadable. The record count was 1154 files in this census and 7423 persons. I had a few records which had a person more than the book. Upon close inspection, the book had the wrong count. As well as, they had not included the persons counted after the total was taken, which was the blind and deaf section. The book has a head count of 7405
