Alexander, where as Polly Six, a member of this church was charged with being guilty of unchristian conduct. She was sited to atten on the 30th this instant to answer to the above name charge. The session of Pisgah Church met on the 30th January agreeably to adjournment. Where as Polly Six who had been conversed with by Jas. Crawford, ruling Elder, and requested to attend. She failed and showed contempt, the session therefore proceeded to furnish her with a written citation, and adjourned to meet again on the 14th of February next. The session of Pisgah Church met agreeably to adjournment constituted by prayer. Where as Polly Six who had been sited to meet the session failed to attend, where upon it was resolved that she shall be sited again to attend at the next meeting. The session adjourned to meet on the 27th of this instant. This session met agreeably to adjournment on inquiry it was asertained that P. Six, a member of this church had been delt with according to discipline and she refusing to hear the church, she was by the vote of the session suspended from the communion of this church for her contumacious* conduct. Alexander Clk Websters def.: contumacious = perverse in resisting authority, stubbornly disobedient - unruly Session Business The session of Pisgah Church met on the 26th of October 1837, where as it appeared that Nancy Laval, a member of this church had been guilty of unchristian conduct. Brother James Crawford was ordered to converse with her on the subject which he accordingly did, and reported that she would not attend, but withes the session to publish her no more a member of this church and she was consequently published as having left the church in disorder. Alexander Clk January 15th 1842 Where as publick fame has loudly said that William Williams, a member of this congregation has been guilty of immoral and unchristian conduct, and refusing to hear the Brothers or comply with the rules of our Discipline, he is therefore dismissed from the communion of this society in disorder. And by his own request, no more a member of our body. W. Peebles Clk Session Business The session of Pisgah Church met on the 3rd day of December, 1837 constituted by prayer. Brother Benjamin Bruce was chosen moderater. Brothers John Crawford, minister, and John Sherwood and A. T. Sullenger, Elders from other congregations were invited and took their seat as corresponding member. Where as it appears to this session that Brother James Crawford and Wm. Pasley have been guilty of unchristian conduct and conversation ? And they having refused to take the steps that the bible directs for reconciliation, they were cited to attend at the house of Wm. Crawfrod on the 27th ? Day of this instant 6 o'clock in the evening to answer to the above charge where in the honor of the cause of God is involved. Resolved that the session of New Pleasant Congregation be requested to send three of her Elders to the aid at said meeting. The session adjourned to meet on the 21st of this instant at Wm. Alexander, Clk Whereas the session of Pisgah congregation failed to constitute at the house of Brother William Crawford agreeably to adjournment. The former moderator convened of the session at the house of Wm. Crawfords on the 13th day of January 1838. Constituted by prayer. Whereas Brothers James Crawford and William Pasley stands charged. They having had a friendly conversation are reconciled, it being satisfactory to the session ordered therefore that it be published to the congregation Benjamin Bruce, Mod. Jas. S. Alexander Session Business The session of Pisgah church met on the 11th day of February 1838, J. S. Alexander, Benjamin Bruce, members present, A.T. Sullinger and Robert Donaldson. The session received three members by experience. Adjourned to meet the 11th of March next. March 11th, the session met agreeably to adjournment. Robert S. Donaldson was appointed to set in presbytery as the representative of this church which meets the 30th day of this instant. The session met agreeably to adjournment on the 14th day of April 1838 at Brother A. T. Sullengers. Constituted by prayer, members present, Robert Donaldson, A. T. Sullenger and Benjamin Bruce. Ordered that Wm. Pasley and Wm. Black be conversed with upon the subject of the difficulty that exist between them. Wm Pasley and Wm. Black met at A. T. Sullengers and settled the difficulty ordered that it be published to the congregation. The same was published to the church on Sat. The 15th of this instant. The session adjourned to meet at Pisgah meeting house on the third Sat. In May next. Concluded with prayers. Benjamin Bruce, Mod. The session failed to meet the third Sat. In May of Pisgah church. The session met agreeable to adjournment on the 16th day of June 1838 and finding no bisnes to do the session adjourned to meet at Pisgah meeting house on the 28th day of July next, 1838. Benjamin Bruce, Mod. Alexander T. Sullinger, Clk Pisgah Session Business The session of Pisgah Church met on the 28th of July A.D. 1838 at Pisgah meeting house. Constituted by prayer. Members present brothers Benjamin Bruce, Robert S. Donaldson and Alexander T. Sullenger and finding no buisness to doo the session adjourned to meet at Pisgah meeting house on the 19th of August 1838. Concluded by prayer. Benjamin Bruce, Mod Alexander T. Sullenger, Clk The session failed to meet agreeable to adjournment on the 19th of August 1838. The session met on the Saturday before the 3rd Sabbath in Sept. 1838. Members present Benj. Bruce, A.T. Sullinger and Robert S. Donaldson. Alexander T. Sullinger was apointed to set in presbytery as the representative of this church which meets the Friday before the 5th Sabbath of this instant. Sullenger, Clk Whereas Pisgah congregation has been destitute in a good degree of the means of grace for several years past having had no regular pasture and consequently deprived of any regular supply of the word and ordiances of the church. A deplorable declenation and deorganization consequently has taken place. We agree therefore to reunite together for the purpose of promoting the revival of God's work among us. Resolved 1st that Brother James S. Alexander be received as stated pasture of this church. Res. 2nd that the session of this congregation meet quarterly on her own adjournments and examine into the condition of the church and that the members individually be required to attend these meetings or render their excuses for none attendance. Res. 3rd that the moderator may call a session at Session Business anytime to attend to church business & c. Res. 4th that as far as God may prosper us we will contribute to the support of the Gospel yearly. The session of Pisgah church met on the 29th day of May 1841. Whereas John Finn a member of this society had been guilty of unchristian conduct. The session had taken measures to converse with him and he came forward in a spirit of penitency and made all the acknowledgements required which was published to the congregation, and his standing sustained. Whereas publick fame has loudly proclaimed that William Black a member of this church has been guilty of immoral and unchristian conduct in the world and in his family and he having been twice tenderly visited by the members of the session and refused to give any satisfaction, he is hereby cited to atten at Pisgah meeting house on the Saturday before the second Sunday in June next at ten o'clock to answer to these complaints. By order of session, May 29, 1841 James S. Alexander, Mod. William B. Peebles, Clk The session met on the 12th day of June agreeably to adjournment constituted by prayer. Brother Wm. Black came forward and rendered satisfaction. His standing was sustained in society and the whole published to the congregation and the assent of the society publickly obtained to the matter. Whereas Brother John Finn having been charged with immoral and unchristian like conduct and being called on by the session, he came forward and gave satisfaction and his standing was sustained. And the same was published to the congregation and the ascent of the same obtained. Session Business June 12th session met according to adjournment by prayer. William Black came forward and with deep contrition of soul and solm promisses for his good performance for the future, he was sustained by the session and the same published to the congregation. James S. Alexander, MD William B. Peebles, Clk The session met on the 25th day of September agreed adjournment constitute by prayer members pres. James S. Alexander, Wm. B. Peebles, R. Donaldson, Brother Benjamin Bruce being present was invited to sit as Moderator. On inquiry the session finds this church in a happy and comfortable state of revival and received at this meeting 21 members by experience. William B. Peebles, Clk The session met on the 19th day of December it being her second qrt. meeting. Members present, Brother James S. Alexander, pastor of this Society and moderator of this session. William Baldwin, John Black, William B. Peebles, session find the society in good order and in a prosperous condition. Received three members after having received since her last quarter meeting at call sessions eleven other, all by experience, making a total of fifty accessions since the 17th of last April. January 16th 1842 Session met constituted by prayer, received six members. March 12th Session met received one member. Whereas Wm. Williams, a member of this church having been guilty of violating his temperance pledge and having been admonished and finally cited to attend before the session requested to be dismissed and was indulged through in disorder by order of session J. S. Alexander, Mod. Wm. B. Peebles, Clk Session Business April 17th ,1842 The session met constituted by prayer, received five members. May 28th, 1842 The session convened at the house of J. S. Alexander. Received 1 member by experience June 19th, The session met at Pisgah meeting house. Where as publick fame has declared Sister Magdelane Thompson guilty of some unchristian conduct in getting angry at a neighbour and useing unchristian language resolved that J. S. Alexander and Robert S. Donaldson be appointed a committy to convers with said Sister and report to the session next Thirsday night. Thirsday night the session met at Br. Wm. Baldwin's and received Wm. Laval by experience after which the committy appointed by the last session reported that they had performed the duty assigned them and that they left the Sister humble and submissive. The session resolved to continue the case until the next meeting. July 18th, 1842 The session met agreeably to adjournment. Whereas all parties concerned in the above named difficulty were not satisfied. Resolved that J.S.D. Alexander, John Black, and R. S. Donaldson be a comity to wait on all concerned and report to the session on next Thursday night. The session failed to meet agreeably to adjournment. The session convened at Pisgah meeting house on the 3rd Sabboth in August and the above comity reported that they have performed the duty assigned them. That they got the parties together and all parties were reconciled. Resolved that Sister Thompsons standing be sustained and that the above be published to the congregation. The Fifth quarterly meeting of Pisgah church met on the 11th day of Sept. 1842. Find this church in a flourishing state received 5 members. W. Baldwin was appointed to attend the next meeting of ILL Presbytery as Elder and R. S. Donaldson the synod as Elder with the pasture of this church. Session Business The session entered into an arrangement to raise ____________? fund for the support of the Gospel. The session adjourns to meet the Saturday before the 3rd Sunday in Dec. next. J. S. Alexander, Mod. R. S. Donaldson, Clk The session was called together by the moderator on the 2nd day of Oct. 1842 Received 10 members. Whereas Elizabeth Dorsey, a member of this church haveing gone out of bounds of this society under the rumer of being guilty of some unchristian conduct and having been conversed with on the subject and she requested to be dismissed fro this church without trial. The case was published to the congregation and sh indulges. Whereas pubick fame has saw that Isaac Black and George Buroughs has been guilty of some unchristian conduct in a personal difficulty. Resolved that Wm. Baldwin, John Black, and J..S. Alexander be a comity to wait on said parties and report to this session. J. S. Alexander, Mod. Robert S. Donaldson, Clk The session met on the 12th Oct. the comity above got the party to gether and they talked the difficulty over in the presence of the session and both parties made acknowlegement satisfactory to the session and ordered that the above be published to the congregation. On the 13th Oct. J. S. Alexander, Mod. R. S. Donaldson, Clk The session was called together by the Moderator on the 9th day of November 1842. Whereas public fame has said that Thomas Scroggins a member of this church has been guilty of unchristian conduct. Ordered that James S. Alexander converse with him on the subject and report to the session. R. S. Donaldson, Clk Session Business Nov. 20, 1842 The session met on the twentieth of November, constituted by prayer and received one member. Dec. 18, 1842 The session held her sixth quarterly meeting. Members present, James S. Alexander, Wm. Baldwin, John Black, R. S. Donaldson and Edward Laval. On inquiry it was asertained that the members of this church are in fellowship and no difficulties with the excep. Of the reports respecting T. Scrogings which case the session has not been able to bring to an issue. The session recommended the election of a Deacon whereupon the vote of the congregation was taken and Brother James Crawford was elected. Resolved unanimasly that this session disapprobate the practice of common dram drinking intierly among the members of this church. Concluded by prayer. Robert S. Donaldson, Clk, March 19th 1843 The session held her seventh quarterly meting constituted by prayer, members present James D. Alexander, John H. Black, William Baldwin, and Robert S. Donaldson. On inquiry it was assertained that the members of this church are in full fellowship and no difficulty exists with the exception of the difficulty of Thomas Scroggins and a difficulty existing with Wm. Laval and also with Martha Laval and James Oxford.. Ordered that John Black, William Baldwin and Robert S. Donaldson convers with those members and report to the session as soon as possible. Whereas Elizabeth Davis, Latita Davis, William Paisley and Artemesy his wife all having moved out of the bounds of this church for years past and not applying for a letter. Resolved therefore that they, be and they are hereby dismissed from this church and also Stephen Gaylord Ruling Elder in this church. Session Business and Rachel his wife and Mary L. Gaylord having removed out of the bounds of this church and have not applyed for a letter. Ordered that they be and they are here by dismissed from this church. Resolved unanimously that hereafter that any member removing out of the bounds of this church and not applying for a letter within six months shall be dismissed from this church. Bo\ro John Black was appointed to attend presbytery as the representative of this church which meets the last Thursday of this Inst. And Robert S. Donaldson his alterate.. Session adjoured to meet the Saturday before the third Sabboth in June at Pisgah meeting house. Concluded by prayer. Robert S. Donaldson, Clk Whereas Alexander T. Sulligen and Eliza his wife formerly member of his church having moved out of the bounds of this church for years and have not aplied for a leter move that they be and are hereby dismissed from this church this 6th day of April 1843 R. S. Donaldson, Clk. The session held her eighth quarterly meeting agreeably to adjournment constituted by prayer. Members present J. S. Alexander, John Black, Wm. Baldwin, and Robert S. Donaldson. The commitee appointed by last session reported that they performed the duties assigned them and that the parties concerned with made acknowledgements satisfactory, except T. Scroggins and Jane Howington and she requested her name to be withdrawn from the church and she was dismissed from the church though in disorder, and the same was published to the congregation, on whereas Thomas Scroggins having been conversed with concerning the reports against him and he dening the Session Business same and failing to come before the session and make sufficient______? and it appearing to the session that the charge could be sustained, and he being out of the bounds of the church ordered that he be dismissed from this church though under the rumour of unchristian conduct and the same be published to the congregation. The session having no more business before her adjourned to meet the Saturday before the first Sabbath in September. Concluded with prayer. June 17th 1843 Robert S. Donaldson, Clk. Sept. The 2nd 1843. Session met agreeable to adjournment, constituted by prayer. Members present James S. Alexander, John Black, Edward Laval, William Baldwin, and Robert S. Donaldson. On inquiry it was assertained that the members of this church are in full fellowship and no difficulty exists. The session received three members by experience. Session adjourned to meet the Saturday before the second Sabbath in December next. Concluded by prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk. Sept. 12, 1843 Session met at Pisgah meting house constitute by prayer. Received two members by experience and then concluded with prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk. Oct 15 Session convened at Pisgah meeting house constituted by prayer and received one member by experience. Whereas Francis Gaylord formerly a member of this church having attached her self to an other church ordered that she be dismissed from this church by order of session. R. S. Donaldson, Clk. R. S. Donaldson, Clk, Dec. 16th 1843 The session of Pisgah congregation held her tenth quarterly meeting agreeable to adjournment constituted by prayer. Members present, James S. Alexander, John Black, Edward Laval, Wm. Baldwin and R. S. Donaldson. On inquiry, it was assertained that Elizabeth Tally, a member of this church having been guilty of Immoral and unchristian conduct and the session having sufficient proof of her guilt, Resolved therefore that she be dismissed from the communion of the church in disorder. And whereas public fame has said that William Black, a member of this church has been guilty of Immoral and unchristian conduct and the session having received testimony by affirmation of his guilt. Resolved therefore that he be, and is hereby dismissed from the communion of the church for time indefinite and that same be published to the co ngregation tomorrow morning, on motion session adjourned to meet at Pisgah meeting house on Saturday before the thir. Sabth. in March 1844. Concluded with prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk Session Business The session was called together by the former moderator on the _____ of Feb. 1844 constituted by prayer. Whereas public fame has said that Joseph Blevins, a member of this church has been guilty of Immoral and unchristian conduct and he having been conversed with on the subject by a member of the session and he having acknowledged he was guilty and giving no satisfactory evidence of repentance ordered that he be cited to appear before this session on the 24th day of this Inst. At Pisgah meeting house at 7 o'clock p.m. to answer to those charges. Session adjourned to meet the 24th Inst. At 7 o'clock p.m. Concluded by prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk Saturday night, Feb. 24th session met persvent to adjournment constituted by prayer. Joseph Blevins having ben cited come before the session and confessed guilty and the crime being such a nature as demanded suspension, the session did therefore suspend him for time indefinite. On motion ordered that R. S. Donaldson attend presbytery which meets the Thursday before the 4th Sabbath in March next as representative of this church, and in case of his failure, Wm. Baldwin be his alternate, on motion session adjourned to meet Saturday before the 3rd Sabbath in March. Concluded with prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk Session Business The session convened at the meeting house on the first day of June constituted by prayer. Members present John Black, Wm. Baldwin, Edward Laval, and R. S. Donaldson. Brother Baldwin was chosen moderator. Whereas public fame has declared that James McIntire and Sanders G? Rice had been guilty of Immoral and unchristian conduct and they having been informed of the meeting came forward and confessed their guilt. Resolved therefore that they be suspended from the communion of the church until they give satisfactory evidence of repentance. Ordered that John Black and R. S. Donaldson be committee to converse with John Finn respecting statements made by him. Session adjourned to meet the Saturday before the 3rd Sabbath of this instant. Concluded by prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk Saturday June 15th Session met persvent to adjournment constituted by prayer. The committee appointed above reported that they had performed the duties assigned them, the accused denied the charged and the session having no evidence before them moved that the case be postponed. Session adjourned to meet next Wednesday at the meeting house at 12 o'clock. Concluded by prayer. R. S. Donaldson, Clk The session failed to meet persvent to adjournment Nov. 7th 1846. The session of Pisgah congregation was called together by a committee and ordered by the presbytery to aid the session in her efforts to sustain the standing of the church and where as the exercise of the church government has been suspended for some time. Resolved that the session now make an effort to sustain the _____________ and standing of the church. Whereas Nancy Williams and Martha Laval members of this church having been guilty of Immoral conduct and having been conversed with on the subject, requested that their names ________________ Session Business _______________________________________________________book the session __________________________________________________________under sensure _______________________________________________________session converse ________________________________________________have been disorderly in _________________________________________________to the next meeting of _________________________________________adjourned to meet the Saturday before the 3rd Sabbath Dec. Next at the meeting house. Js Crawford, Mod. R. S. Donaldson, Clk. Dec. 20th 1846 The session met at the meeting house and reported progress on in part, but not completion. Where an order having ben posed some time previous to his time suspending J. W. McIntire from this church and where as the session shortly after the passage of that order reconsidered and recinded that order, and having failed to have the _____________________ of that order published ordered that it be published today which was accordingly done.
