She was the daughter of Ambert and Mary (Turner) Gilliland. Cynthia was born in Greene County, Illinois in 1842. Meshola married ??. Jasper married ??? and James married ???. There is some controversy about William's birth date. On the 1850 US Census, his age was shown to be 60 years old. On his death certificate, he was listed as 54, in Jan 1860. Mary Jane's name was misspelled on the 1850 census also she was listed as meary jane. It is very possible that this information was given by a neighbor or acquaintance. In this, I have used the death certificate date. Jasper N and William T volunteered with the Illinois 61st Infantry Co B., during the Civil War, Jasper on Feb 5, 1862, William T on Mar 7, 1862. Both were mustered out on March 11, 1864. William and Lucinda are buried at the Hopewell Cemetery in Greene County, Illinois, as is their daughter, Mary Jane (Ward) Ballard. The rest of the family has eluded me after the Civil War. ************************************************************************** USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
