On the 11th of August last, between 5 and 6 of the oclock P.M. my second daughter in her 16th year was visited with a Paralytic Stroke, which terminated her earthly existence about midnight after_she never spoke after she was struck_you are a Father and I will leave it for you to judge and describe my affliction occasioned by the bereavement_Her and two other Females of about the same age was engaged in conducting a Sunday School in the neighborhood composed of small children_Her favorite Hymn was the one of Doct. Watt’s commencing_ "Lord what a wretched land is this”_ On the morrow morning David Pinkerton the bearer of this starts from here on a journey to your neighborhood. It will be more easily for him to communicate to you verbally many particulars touching matter and things here then for me to write of them_Your brother Washington McCutchon left here about the first of March last, since which time I have not heard from him; but I presume that he is now at home_My reading, at this time and for more then a year past, is confined to Periodical, Religious and Political_Henry S Commentaries, and Newton on the Prophecies_I would be glad to hear that you are supporting Vanburen for President. I believe that there is thousands of good and Honest men supporting the election of White for the same office in your state_but mark it my friend James, he is rotten at heart. Corn crops is excellent with us_Pork will be from three to four dollars per hundred_wheat is worth from $1.00 to $1.06 ¼ per bushel_ you will be so good as to remember us to your mother and sister and her husband and to all of your brothers and give our compliments to the Mr. Bells.
