Comments: Looking for any information regarding the Featherstone family of Greene County, Illinois. Mary Elizabeth Brock, born July 1838, married Thomas Featherstone, born January 1835. Mary was the sister of Joel and James H. Brock. The Featherstone children included William, Nancy J., Dora, and Mary. This Featherstone family took care of Joel Brock's disabled daughter Nancy A. Brock, who was born to Joel and Catherine Barnett/Brock March 05, 1859, and died January 23, 1913. Is Tarlton Fleming Brock any relation at all to James, Joel, and Mary? Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: My Great Grandfather, Charles R. Brock, was born May 02, 1864, in Greene County, Illinois. His father was James H. Brock, born about 1820 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, lived in Greene County from at least 1850. He was listed as a blacksmith. In the 1860 Greene County census, I found James H. Brock and Elizabeth (Young), his wife, with children Matilda J (possibly by Elizabeth's prior marriage); William J.; Leviel J.; Joseph and Erasmus. Several households before, I found James' brother Joel Brock and wife Catherine (Barnett) w/children Mary E. and Nancy A. Brock. In the 1870 Cass County, Missouri census, I found James H. Brock but Elizabeth was not with the family. Joel Brock was listed with James' family. I do not know where the family was in 1880. Records show Charles R. Brock's oldest daughter Stella Ann was born on April 1, 1891, in Cass County, Missouri. In 1900, Charles and family was living in Edgar County, Illinois. I have no idea what ever became of James or the others listed in the 1860/70 census records. The Greene County, Illinois newspaper, the Greenfield Argus, dated September 25, 1903, read, "Joel BROCK, age 75, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ulysses Gibbons, Monday, and was buried at Barnett." Any information on the above named families would be most appreciated.

Comments: There is an old family story about one of my ancestors. His name was Howey, James M. As the story goes he was living in Pearl(right across the county line in Pike). He was called back to the old country, Ireland, to settle an estate. In his absence, his wife left him,on returning back to Ill. and finding his misfoutune, he grew dispondent and became a hermit. He died , years passed and in about 1929 men digging in the area found a stash of gold Irish coins. The coins were thought to have been buried by James Howey. Does any oldtimer remember of hearing this story or reading of this in a newspaper? Thanks, Annette

Comments: POINDEXTER. I am researching my gr.gr.gr. grandparents, Thomas & Maxy WOOD-POINDEXTER. They were married in KY and had seven of their nine children there. Thomas & Maxy Poindexter moved to Greene Co. IL probably in mid-1830, and settled with their WOOD inlaws in the area now known as Woodville, which I believe is a Township in Green Co. At one time there was a village of Woodville, and the family lived in and around it. Thomas' father-in-law Stephen WOOD lived with them for some time. My gr.gr. grandfather James Newton POINDEXTER was born to them in December of 1830, and James' elder siblings Ambrose, Harrison and Louisa were all married in Greene Co. Thomas POINDEXTER may or may not have owned land, perhaps renting it, but his sons Ambrose B. POINDEXTER and Harrison POINDEXTER both owned land or businesses in Greene Co. around the 1830's and 1840's. After that, much of the family moved to Missouri and Oregon 1845-1850, and I have no idea what happened to Thomas & Maxy Poindexter after 1840 census. If anyone finds any mention of Greene County Poindexters, even the slightest detail, I would love to hear of them. I do not know what Thomas did for a living, what church he attended, political affiliations, lodge memberships, or anything. His son Harrison also vanishes after about 1835. Any Poindexter tidbit at all would be terrific, as I have so little on the Poindexters' life in Greene Co. Thanks! Gloria
