Sunday, May 17, 1896, by falling down the shaft at the local mine of T. W. Griffiths, near Roodhouse, Greene county. He was engaged hoisting water; it was his duty to attend the gin horse and dump the barrel. At the time of the accident there was no one present at the mine. He was found dead at the bottom of the shaft.
