Obituary of George Cuthbert GRISWOLD, Greene County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Gary Griswold GEORGE C. GRISWOLD VICTIM OF FLU ________ George C. Griswold, aged 67 years, 4 months, and 27 days, died at 9:50 o'clock Friday night, April 3, 1931, at his home on W. Bridgeport St., after suffering with the flu and kidney trouble for over seven weeks. He was born on Apple Creek Prairie, southwest of White Hall, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Griswold, prominent farmers on the prairie. He was united in marriage with Miss Aura Rickart of White Hall on Feb. 21, 1900, and for sixteen years they resided on there farm an Apple Creek Prairie, and then took up their residence in White Hall. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Griswold, all of whom survive as follows: Helen, wife of Dr. Frank Boggess, Ralph and Glenn Griswold, all of White Hall and vicinity. There are three grandchildren. (Alvin, Robert, and Jane Boggess-not named in this article). Mrs. Griswold died Jan. 29, 1922.(Jan. 30th is the correct date). After coming to this city Mr. Griswold supervised work at his farm, which required a great part of his time. He took a great intrest in the White Hall Chautauqua, serving as vice president and president, and his services will be greatly missed. He was not affiliated with any church and held membership in no fraternal organizations, but he stood for fair dealing and everything designed for the good of the community. Funeral was held in the church at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Dr. Chas. M. Brown of the Presbyterian church officiating. Mrs. Edward Roodhouse sang several selections. The flowers were in charge of Misses Lucy Craw, Mable Louise Griswold, Mrs. Henry Griswold, Mrs. Francis Moulton, Mrs. Dwight Sykes, and Mrs. Lee Griswold. The pall bearers were Harold Culbertson, Ernest Price, Loyal Seely Griswold, Carl Moulton, Jesse Ridings and Lee Griswold.
