Obituary of Miss Mary Agnes MARTIN, Greene County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Hillman Miss Mary Agnes Martin, aged nearly 61 years, of Carrollton died at Central Hospital, Jacksonville, Sunday evening, Sept 1, 1912. She had been in ill health for the past several months and had been in the hospital only a few weeks. The body was taken to Carrollton, to the home of J. M. Widdowson, whose wife was a sister of deceased. Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Gilead church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Dickman in charge. Interment in the cemetery near by. Miss Martin was born in the Mt. Gilead neighborhood near Carrollton, and at the age of eighteen began teaching school, continuing in this work for nearly thirty years in various schools of the country. About fifteen years ago she removed to Carrollton, since which time she had given her time to the care of her mother until the death of the latter in 1909. Deceased was highly regarded as a lady of Christian character. She is survivied by four sisters and two brothers. They are Mrs. Martha Short and Mrs. J.W. Widdowson of Carrollton; Mrs. W. E. Hobbs of Coffeyville, Kan; Mrs. J. M. Farmer of White Hall vicinity; Sam C.
