Obituary of Mrs Mary E HOPPER, Greene County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Hillman The subject of this sketch, Mrs. Mary E. Hopper, was born in the state of Kentucky, April 12, 1814. She was married to C.A.Hopper in 1830 and came to Illinois. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom survive her. They are Mary, widow of the late James Morrow, and Sydney, of this place. Mrs.Elizabeth Morrow, of Roodhouse, Mrs. Sarah M. Spenser of Murrayville, and Mrs. McNeal of southwest Missouri. Mrs. Hopper professed religion in early youth and has ever since lived an exemplary christian life. In 1857 she became a charter member of the Richwoods Baptist Church, of which she remained a worthy and consistent member until death. She died Jan. 7, 1892, aged 77 years, 8 months, and 28 days. Her funeral was preached at Richwoods, by Elder Atterbury, after which her remains were interred in the Richwoods cemetery. "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like His."
