Obituary of Mamie E Griswold, Greene County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Gary Griswold As long as her health permitted, much of her time was given to working for the various departments of the Christian Church of this city, which she joined when she was a young lady. She was a loyal member of the Dorcas Society and taught classes in the Sunday School for many years. Some of her best friends in the latter part of her life were folks, who as children, had been in her classes. She became a member of Guiding Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, soon after it was organized and retained her membership in that organization as long as she was able to attend meetings. "Aunt Minnie", as she was affectionately called by many of her friends, possesed indomitable courage and endured her afflictions without complaining. Whatever she did, she did well. Her diaries and her scrap books were always so well kept that people were constantly referring to them for dates and records of past events. She was generous and unselfish and her last thoughts were of others. She is survived by one brother, Albert H. Griswold. Two brothers, George Griswold and Elmer Griswold, and one sister, Mrs. S. Craw, preceded her in death. Rev. C. L. Leitze, pastor of the Christian Church, conducted funeral services at Dawdy's Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 24. Mrs Curtis Brown and Miss Kate Ellis sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "It Is Well With My Soul", and "Saved By Grace", accompanied by Mrs. Bird Duncan. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Henry Griswold, Miss Mabel Louise Griswold, Mrs. Ralph Griswold, Mrs. Glenn Vandaveer, Mrs. Ray Isaacs, Sullivan, Ill., and Mrs. Frances T. Elgin, Carrollton, Ill. The bearers were Fred Baker, Ralph Griswold, Henry Griswold, Harold Culbertson, Glenn Vandaveer and Lloyd Craw, Cerro Gordo, Ill. Interment was made in the White Hall Cemetery.
